Can you help out at Whipps Cross Hospital Radio?

Well, if you think that you could join the team read on........

Every year we receive hundreds of offers of help from potential volunteers, but very few are actually suitable, for a variety of reasons.  The most important asset we need is commitment and reliability (we once had a couple of volunteers who phoned up to say they couldn't come down as promised because it was a sunny afternoon and they were going to the pub instead!).  If you have a particular skill and can work with our technical team looking after the studios and the headsets in the wards, then we would like to hear from you.   Perhaps you could help with fundraising or publicity, or can spare a couple of hours a week to visit listeners in the wards and help them with their headsets and take their requests - it's all an important part of the service.

There is also the job of presenting the programmes.  We need people who are good communicators (but can listen as well as talk!),  preferably have some previous experience (although we can train a complete novice if they are the right person), and will get out in the hospital and visit their listeners on a regular basis.    A wide knowledge of popular music is also a help,  remember most of our listeners are over 50 and can request virtually anything: Gilbert & Sullivan, Matt Monro, My Way, Charlie Parker, The Eagles, Peer Gynt, Boyzone.  Do you recognise them all?  If so, and you can give up a few hours each week on a regular basis, then email Mike Jones with your name and an evening/weekend telephone number.  In order to reduce spam we no longer provide email links, so if you do want to contact Mike, please re-type this email adress into your email program:

 Emali address for Mike Jones

Please note: Calls from the Whipps Cross telephone system to mobile phones are for some inexplicable reason very expensive.  It would help us greatly if you could give Mike a landline number to contact you on rather than a mobile. Thanks!
